Flipkart and Jiomart are two of India's biggest e-commerce platforms, and both require product barcodes (EAN codes) when you list new products. This guide explains exactly how to use your barcode on each platform — step by step — so you can get your products live as quickly as possible.
Using a Barcode on Flipkart Seller Hub
Step 1 — Register as a Flipkart Seller
Before listing products, you need to complete your Flipkart seller registration at seller.flipkart.com. You will need your GST number, PAN, bank account details, and a business address.
Step 2 — Start a New Product Listing
In Flipkart Seller Hub, go to Listings → Add New Listing → Add Single Listing. Select your product category. You will be asked to enter a product identifier.
Step 3 — Enter Your EAN Barcode Number
In the EAN / Barcode field, enter your 13-digit EAN number from your Planet Retail barcode package Excel file. For example: 8901234567890. This is what uniquely identifies your product on Flipkart's system.
Step 4 — Complete the Product Details
Fill in your product title, description, images, MRP, selling price, category attributes, and stock quantity. Click Submit to send the listing for review.
Step 5 — Physical Label on Product
Flipkart's fulfilment system requires a barcode on the physical product or its packaging. Send the PDF barcode image from your Planet Retail package to your printer or label maker. Apply the label on the product box or directly on the product before shipment to Flipkart's warehouse.
Using a Barcode on Jiomart (Reliance Retail)
Step 1 — Register on JioMart Partner
Visit partner.jiomart.com and complete your seller registration. You need GST details, business documents, and product details ready.
Step 2 — Create Your Product Catalogue
In the seller dashboard, go to Catalogue → Add Product. Select your product category and subcategory.
Step 3 — Enter the EAN / Barcode Field
Jiomart asks for a product barcode / EAN code during product creation. Enter your 13-digit EAN number from your Planet Retail Excel list. This links your physical product to your digital listing.
Step 4 — Print Barcode on Packaging
Jiomart, as a Reliance Retail platform, is connected to an extensive offline retail network. Your product may be stocked in JioMart stores and kirana partner outlets. Ensure the EAN barcode is printed clearly on your product packaging so it can be scanned in-store.
Common Errors and How to Fix Them
| Error | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| "EAN already exists" | Another product already uses that barcode number on the platform | Contact platform support — this should not happen with unique barcodes from Planet Retail |
| Listing stuck in review | Category requires additional documentation | Check your Flipkart/Jiomart dashboard for pending document requests |
| Barcode not scanning in warehouse | Low print resolution or incorrect scale | Ensure PDF barcode is printed at 100% scale, not resized down below 80% |
| Wrong product shows when scanning | EAN was reused from a previous product | Always use a fresh, unique barcode for each new product |
